Rideau-Osgoode Youth Retail Experience Program (ROYREP)

The complaint among unemployed and underemployed youth is often the same: without experience, finding a job is difficult. Without having a job, it is challenging to acquire that necessary experience.

To address this issue, PQCHC offers youth living in Ottawa’s rural south end an opportunity to acquire necessary experience in retail through a paid 20 week work experience program. The Rideau-Osgoode Youth Retail Employment Program (ROYREP) partners with local retailers to help youth (15 to 30 years of age) overcome barriers to joining the workforce.  The ROYREP provides both a starting point for building a resume and informative workshops that teach youth valuable work and life skills that are needed for continued success and independence.

Enrolment in the free ROYREP program guarantees:

  • 30 hours per week for 20 weeks
  • 480 hours of work experience in a retail store
  • 120 hours of employment and life skills workshops
  • Paid $10.25 per hour for all program activities
  • $500 completion bonus

In order to be eligible for Pinecrest-Queensway’s Rideau Osgoode Youth Retail Employment Program, applicants must be facing barriers to employment, live in Ottawa’s rural south end, including Manotick, Metcalfe, Osgoode, North Gower, Greely and surrounding area. Applicants must be 15 to 30 years of age, possess Canadian citizenship, permanent residency or refugee status and be legally entitled to work in Ontario. Applicants cannot be currently employed, in school or have received Employment Insurance benefits in the last three years.

9 youth are accepted per session. Sessions are run twice per year.
