Multicultural Seniors Program
The Multicultural Seniors Program:
The Multicultural Seniors Program (MCS) serves immigrant older adults and seniors who may be at risk of social isolation due to barriers such as race, language, culture, limited mobility, and financial challenges. The program promotes health, well-being, and social connection through culturally inclusive activities offered both virtually and in person on the first and third Wednesday of the month.
The program serves four senior groups: Arabic, Chinese, English, and Russian-speaking seniors living in Ottawa. Interpretation is available in Arabic, Mandarin, and Russian to ensure meaningful participation and accessibility for all participants.
Program activities include guided physical wellness programs such as Chair Yoga, Tai Chi, Zumba, and Chair Exercise, as well as educational and recreational activities including nutrition education, gardening, arts and crafts, memory fitness, cultural celebrations, and outings.
The program aims to strengthen connections among multicultural communities, encourage active participation, and support seniors in remaining socially engaged and connected within the community.
Program activities operate throughout the year through scheduled virtual and in-person group sessions and community events.
The Russian-speaking Support Group
The Russian-Speaking Support Group (RSSG) fosters mental well-being by creating opportunities for connection and reducing social isolation among Russian-speaking Older Adults. The group meets once a month in a hybrid format, making participation accessible for everyone. This support group is one of many initiatives making a meaningful difference in the lives of older adults in our community. The RSSG have been meeting for over 20 years and include Russians, Ukrainian, and other cultures that speak Russian. This active group of vibrant people is open to all Ottawa Russian-Speaking Older Adults.
