Job1 is an exciting partnership between Pinecrest-Queensway Community Health Centre and retail businesses in the west end of Ottawa, funded by the United Way. The goal of this free program is to provide students in Ottawa’s west end aged 15 to 19 with a volunteer experience in the retail industry, so they can acquire the skills and experience necessary to finding part-time employment in the future.
Each year, Job1 places 16 youth from the PQCHC catchment area in work placements in retail stores in the west end of Ottawa. Youth enrolled in the program are guaranteed the following:
- 48 hours of total work over 10 weeks
- 2 hours of orientation training prior to the start of the placement
- Ongoing weekly training throughout the placement
- $100 gift certificate upon completion
Participants and retailers will receive ongoing support from the Job1 staff to ensure a positive experience for all involved.
The program is for youth between the ages of 15 to 19 who are still in school and have limited work experience. Job1 staff will screen and interview the youth as part of the program’s selection process. A short meeting between the selected participant and the retailer is arranged prior to the start of the placement in order to ensure a suitable match has been made.
