Future Builders is a 15 week program that provides pre-apprenticeship training and work experience to youth with barriers to employment (aged 16-29 years) in residential construction trades (i.e. general carpentry). The program will provide targeted youth with the skills, experience and knowledge needed to enter an apprenticeship in a skilled trade. Program participants complete 2 weeks of ministry mandated safety training such as work place safety, WHMIS, First Aid/CPR, and a 12 week paid-placements within the trades. Work placements and job shadowing opportunities through the program will expose youth to a minimum of two trades. Throughout the course of the 15 week program, participants will also receive pre-employment and essential skills training such as communication, literacy support, conflict resolution and time management through hands on workshops and training. PQCHC staff will provide participants with on-going group and individual support and group-based training throughout the work placement phase of the project.
To be eligible for Future Builders, participants must be:
- between the ages 16 and 29
