Diabetes

Pinecrest-Queensway Community Health Centre, in partnership with the Community Diabetes Education Program (CDEP) of Ottawa, offers free education for adults living with Type 2 diabetes and pre-diabetes.

Groups are facilitated by a registered nurse and a registered dietitian who provide a variety of tools and resources that enable individuals to live well with diabetes.  Topics include nutrition, exercise, glucose monitoring and foot care, with a focus on self-care practices.

Additional programming includes supermarket tours where members learn how to read food labels and make healthier choices.  Nurses and dietitians are available for optional one-on-one appointments, as well as the group program. Insulin initiation is provided to adults with Type 2 diabetes referred by their physicians.

New groups are available starting each month and individuals are welcome to bring a support person.  Individual needs can be accommodated, speak to one of the educators when registering. Please contact 613-233-6655 for registration information and group meeting times.
