This workshop is
useful for parents
of young babies. Songs are sung throughout the presentation.
Parents will learn about:
- age based language milestones
- the free services that First Words offers
- ways in which they can help promote their child's speech and
language development

First Words - Get to know
our services...
In this workshop, participants will
learn about the services that First Words offers, such as free
screening clinics. As well, participants will learn why early
language development is important, what childhood language
milestones are typical and how parents can promote speech and
language with their children. Additional topics such as second
language development and the importance of play will also be
discussed.

This workshop
focuses on the speech and language development
of children 0 to 24 months. The communication and language
milestones are identified for this age group. High-risk
indicators of delays are discussed. Concrete strategies to
promote language development are also provided.

Make & Take a Book:
This is a
very engaging workshop in which participants have the opportunity to
make homemade books. This workshop has various components, one
of which is to discuss the age-appropriateness of different books.
Another component focuses on the importance of storytelling and
early exposure to books.
