Youth Retail Employment Program (YREP)

  • This partnership program between Pinecrest-Queensway Community Health Centre, Bayshore and Carlingwood Shopping Centres is open to youth between the ages of 15-30 who are out of school and facing barriers to employment. The program is 21 weeks long, and consists of an 18-week long work placement at a retail store and 120 hours of skills development training.  The participants work 30 hours per week and earn minimum wage while on placement and in training sessions.

  • The skills development training covers topics such as:  Customer Service; Health and Safety; Loss Prevention; Resume Writing; Interview Skills; Conflict Resolution; Self Esteem and Motivation; Communication and Teamwork; and Career Development.

  • YREP staff provide ongoing support throughout the program including job search assistance at the end of the program for those who are not hired by their stores.

  • This program is funded by the Government of Canada.

Youth Retail Work Experience (YRWE)

  • YRWE is an 8-week work experience for youth, aged 15-24, who are still in school and want to develop new skills and experience in the retail industry.  Participants work voluntarily 6 hours per week for 8 weeks.  Workshops are offered in the areas of Customer Service and Job Retention.  This program is funded by the United Way..

EXPERICA - the Practice Firm
An employment program in our community that offers job seekers the opportunity to participate and gain real work experience in a replication of a small business. "Learning by Doing" is the approach where maximum participation in the program is 12 weeks.

  • Persons changing careers with applicable academic background
  • Residents of Ontario seeking employment in the Ottawa region
  • Persons having difficulty integrating into the job market

  • Graphic Design
  • Information Technology: LAN Technicians, Software Developers, Web Developers

Qualified candidates must be ready to commit to a 35 hour, unpaid weekly schedule with a primary objective of returning to paid employment in their field as soon as possible. All candidates must be referred by Northern Lights Vocational Services.
